Fabricating a custom battery housing onto an RV

Fabricating a custom battery housing onto an RV

Quick project this weekend. Buddy of mine wanted to install a few iron plates in which he could bolt down and padlock the car batteries he takes with his camper. Very simple design, very strong. No more will he worry about them bouncing out, nor is anyone going to take these batteries without some serious work.

The design consisted of two upside down “L” shaped pieces pointing outwards, with one straight bar running across on top. He hadn’t drilled the holes in the straight piece, so we just clamped the three pieces together so I could weld down the whole unit as it would be once he did. I had them grind off the paint, then I laid down some spray transfer beads with the wire-fed miller mig, then we were done.
